Kilkenny, The Perfect Backdrop for Filmmaking
Supporting and Showcasing Kilkenny’s Creative Film Industry
About Screen Kilkenny
Screen Kilkenny is a Kilkenny County Council initiative supported by the Economic Development Unit of the Kilkenny Local Enterprise Office (LEO). Our main objective is to promote Kilkenny as Ireland’s vibrant filmmaking hub, offering a wealth of talent, skills, experience, and natural beauty — from rich medieval history, architecture, and heritage to colourful rivers and countryside landscapes. We provide an exceptional ‘film friendly’ experience!
We aim to continue to support and develop Kilkenny’s film industry as Ireland’s creative filmmaking hub. We provide a comprehensive support service for all levels of film, TV, and animation production located in the County.
Where Medieval Meets Modern
Kilkenny offers filmmakers a rare blend of medieval heritage and modern landmarks, creating a visually rich backdrop for any production.
Medieval magic through the cobbled streets, ancient walls and iconic architecture provide instant authenticity for historical period dramas, while offering modern contemporary spaces, charismatic interiors and vibrant streetscapes for creative storytelling.
This unique mix allows productions to capture a blend of the past and present.
With strong local talent and support, diverse locations, and a creative community shaped by animation, film and the arts, Kilkenny is where heritage and modern filmmaking meet in perfect harmony!

A Film-Friendly Location with Unmatched Character and Accessibility
From rich medieval streetscapes and diverse architecture to colourful rivers, rolling countryside, and a lively arts scene, Kilkenny offers filmmakers a wide variety of unique and visually striking settings, all within a compact, film-friendly region.
Located in the province of Leinster in Ireland’s South East Region, Kilkenny is a distinctive and accessible destination, just 90 minutes from Dublin on the M9 motorway and acting as a gateway to the South East coastline.
Kilkenny City, at the heart of the county, combines historic charm with vibrant culture and stunning natural beauty, making it an exceptional location for film and television production.
