Funding and Developing Ireland’s Screen Industry

Fis Eireann/ Screen Ireland is the development agency for the Irish film, television and animation industry. They provide a wide range of funding programmes including Development, Production, Distribution and Publicity Support and Short Film Schemes.
The tax credit to film in Ireland is 32%, (known as Section 481), for film, television, animation, creative documentary, post production and VFX and Games Development in Ireland, administered by Ireland’s Department of Culture and the Revenue Commissioners.
A new 40% rate of relief for visual effects (VFX) has been introduced to support the growing VFX sector in Ireland.

The base rate of tax credit is worth up to 32% of eligible Irish expenditure. The payable tax credit is based on the cost of all cast and crew working in Ireland, and all goods and services sourced in Ireland. This includes post-production and/ or VFX.
Ther is no annual cap or limit on the funding of the programme. The amount of relief due depends on the production costs of the qualifying film. The tax credit has a ‘per project’ cap of up to 32% of the lower of:
* All eligible expenditure
* 80% of the total cost of production
* €125 million

Nationwide Additional Production Fund
